Easter on Parade will hop back to Monument Avenue for annual celebration

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - An Easter tradition is hopping back to Monument Avenue this weekend.

Easter on Parade will take over Monument Avenue in Richmond from Davis to North Allen Avenues on Sunday, April 20. The annual celebration, which first started in 1973, will last from 1 to 5 p.m.

"It's always fun and always exciting," said Michael Lantz, president of Historic Monument Avenue. "We probably will have over 20,000 people. It's free. It's kid friendly. It's just one of, I think, Richmond's best events all year."

Attendees will find their annual favorites including live music, arts and crafts, and vendors. The People and Pet Bonnet Contest is also returning to the stage at Allen and Monument avenues.

"I think it brings out the best of our community," Lantz said. "You see old people here, young people here. It really brings the community together. Again, it's the best people watching you'll see."

Sunday's celebration is free and open to the public.
