Fallen tree branch causes power outage in Chesterfield County

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A tree branch fell on a power line in Chesterfield County Thursday morning, snapping the line and causing a power outage, officials said.

In the morning on Thursday, Aug. 28, a tree branch reportedly fell onto a power line near J. G. Hening Elementary School, located at 5230 Chicora Dr. in Chesterfield County, snapping the line and causing a power outage in the area.

The line did not catch fire, according to officials. At the height of the outage, there were about 3,000 homes and businesses in the area without power, according to Dominion Energy.

Power was restored to the elementary school, and as of reporting, there were about 30 homes in the area without power, which crews are currently working to restore.
