Final ‘Back on Track’ event to help Richmonders resolve past-due bills

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The city of Richmond is hosting the last in its series of events aimed at helping customers resolve past-due bills this weekend.

The third and final "Back on Track" event will take place between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, at John Marshall High School, 4225 Old Brook Road. Eligible Richmonders can learn about financial assistance options through one-on-one meetings with the city's Department of Public Utilities (DPU) staff and enroll in payment plans.

Launched last month, the program looks to help customers resolve past-due utility balances, avoid service disruption and get their accounts back on track.

At the Saturday event, DPU staff will be available to answer questions, explain account details and help customers explore assistance programs, including the MetroCare Assistance Program for qualifying households. The department will also provide educational resources to help reduce water waste and manage water bills as part of "Fix a Leak Week."

Accounts that remain delinquent after April 1 may be subject to service disconnection, officials said. Disconnections are slated for mid-April.

Customers should bring their utility account number and a photo ID to the Saturday event so staff can assist them more quickly. For more information, visit Back on Track with DPU or call 804-646-4646.
