Fire crews respond to 5 acre brush fire in Powhatan County

POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- On Saturday, March. 29 a brush fire was reported at the 2100 block of Judes Ferry Road in Powhattan County at approximately 1:57 a.m.

When Fire Company two arrived at the scene, they called for immediate backup and resources due to the size and complexity of trying to access the fire.

According to Powhatan County Fire and Rescue, crews used drones and other technology to provide aid in combatting the brush fire, and to track personnel which helped locate hotspots.

The cause of the five acre fire is still under investigation, however according to Powhatan County Fire and Rescue appears to have been started by a downed powerline.

Fire crews were on the scene for approximately four hours, and there are no reported injuries at this time.
