Floodwaters close part of Tappahannock roadway
 
                                ESSEX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Flooding has partially shut down a Tappahannock roadway Thursday night.
As of 9:20 p.m., Route 17 southbound near the Mount Landing Creek bridge in Essex County's Tappahannock area is closed due to flooding, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area. Through traffic can detour to Warings Mill Road to Mount Landing Road to Airport Road, which reconnects with Route 17 southbound.

Essex is just one of several Virginia localities under a coastal flood warning until 1 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 31. Other Central Virginia counties under such a warning include Lancaster, Middlesex, Richmond and Northumberland counties.
