Flying Squirrels to host annual Nutzy’s Block Party at CarMax Park for first time

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- CarMax Park will host its first-ever Nutzy's Block Party in early March, kicking off the Richmond Flying Squirrels' 2026 baseball season with food and fun.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, the annual Nutzy's Block Party will take over the brand-new CarMax Park, according to a Feb. 12 press release from the Flying Squirrels.

This free event will be held at the park's entrance at the back of the Blue Lot. Attendees can expect food, live music, kids' activities, games, vendors and a mascot autograph session.

Best of all, attendees will be able to get a sneak peek at CarMax Park prior to the Flying Squirrels' first game of the 2026 season -- and the park's inaugural game -- on April 7.

“This will be the most significant milestone we get to celebrate with the community since we broke ground on CarMax Park two years ago,” said Flying Squirrels general manager Anthony Oppermann in the release. “We’re so excited for fans to experience the new Squirrels Nest Team Store and get their tickets for this historic inaugural season in our new home.”

Those who are interested in filling CarMax Park's stands on opening night have to enter a ticket lottery due to high demand. Said lottery will close at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27.

Individual game tickets for any other game will go on sale in-person during Nutzy's Block Party. After 1 p.m. that day, they will be available online.

Additionally, the new Squirrels Nest Team Store will be open during the event. Shoppers will be able to get their hands on the Flying Squirrels' refreshed branding, new Nutasha merchandise and more.

Attendees can park for free in the park's Red, Green and Yellow lots, while the Blue Lot will be closed. Per the release, fans should enter these lots from their access points along Robin Hood Road, Hermitage Road or North Arthur Ashe Boulevard next to the Red Lot.
