Former Chesterfield police officer, wife can leave Virginia as part of bond

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A former Chesterfield County police officer and his wife, who both face drug-related charges, are allowed to leave Virginia as part of their bond.

Earlier in May, the Chesterfield County Police Department received a tip that Lewis Hagen, a 40-year-old police officer at the time, had reportedly been having illegal drugs mailed to his home. The Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) Richmond District Office High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force executed a search warrant on his home, which resulted in his arrest.

Lewis and his wife, Tiffany Hagen, were both charged with possession with intent to distribute an imitation substance and conspiracy. However, Tiffany is facing a third possession charge that Lewis does not have.

Lewis and Tiffany were in court for a status hearing on Thursday, May 29, where their bonds were adjusted to allow them to leave the Commonwealth for holiday travel until their next hearing this fall.

The Hagens' defense argued that they already have scheduled holiday travel for later this year, and should be able to leave the state for that travel only.

However, they will be supervised through the Community Supervision (CCS) when they leave Virginia.

In addition to their ability to leave the state for holiday travel, they both will face daily pre-trial supervision. They are not allowed to possess a firearm, must abstain from drugs and alcohol and submit to drug testing, which includes illegal drugs. This drug testing will not include alcohol.

As of the time of reporting, the Hagens' drug testing was sent to a laboratory and is awaiting the status of the results, which are expected to arrive within 30 to 60 days.

The next hearing is slated for Aug. 4 -- however, that is subject to change.
