Former corrections officer arrested for attempted smuggling of over $150,000 worth of narcotics

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- In Richmond a now former Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) Officer, was arrested for attempting to smuggle over $150,000 worth of drugs into a VADOC facility on Friday, April 11.

Special agents from the VADOC Office of Law Enforcement Services (OLES), have now arrested 29-year-old, former Pocahontas State Correctional Officer Raekwon Robins.

According to OLES, Robins previously confessed to both smuggling drugs into Pocahontas State and planning to do so again in the near future.

A search warrant that was executed on Robin's residence led to the seizure of the narcotics which totaled to over $150,000 in prison value, a handgun and $1,000 in cash.

Robins has ben charged with three counts of:

  • Possession of a controlled substanc with intent to distribute
  • Two counts of conspiring /delivering a controlled substance to an inmate

"Anyone, whether they are a corrections employee or otherwise, should seriously weigh the risks of trying to smuggle drugs and contraband into one of our facilities," said VADOC Director Chad Dotson.

The VADOC expressed it has zero tolerance for the attempted smuggling of drugs or contraband into its facility. "Is a short-term gain worth potential time in prison? Consider that before you try to bring your poison into our secure facilities," shared Dotson.
