Free tree giveaway to be held in Petersburg for residents

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- Are you a Petersburg resident interested in receiving a free tree to plant? A tree giveaway will be held at the Petersburg Public Library on Thursday to increase tree cover in the city. The free tree giveaway for Petersburg residents will be held at the Petersburg Public Library from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14. According to the city, the event is first come, first served with one tree given away per person. The trees are native and range from small to medium size in 2-gallon pots. The trees reportedly grow up to 4 feet tall. The project is coordinated by Virginia State University with funding provided by the Virginia Department of Forestry. According to the city, Department of Forestry staff will be at the event to answer questions.
