Garbage truck fire shuts down I-95 North in Hanover near Kings Dominion

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A garbage truck on fire has shut down Interstate 95 North in Hanover County near Kings Dominion on Friday, causing four miles of backups.

At about 4:55 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, state troopers with Virginia State Police were called to I-95 northbound near Kings Dominion Boulevard for report of a vehicle fire.

Troopers arrived to find a broken-down garbage truck that had caught fire.

Thankfully, no one was hurt -- however, the highway has been shut down as firefighters work to put out the fire and clear the scene.

As of 5:40 p.m., all northbound lanes are closed, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). Traffic is backed up for about 4 miles.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area for the time being.
