Goochland man sentenced for providing cocaine, fentanyl that killed friend
GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Goochland County man will serve multiple years in prison after he gave a friend cocaine and fentanyl, which killed him.
On Thursday, Dec. 4, Don Carnell Batchelor, Jr. of Goochland was sentenced to five years in prison for distribution of cocaine and fentanyl, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).
The incident took place on Aug. 20, 2021 in the city of Richmond. On that date, a friend of Batchelor's -- identified as "SN" within court documents -- asked Batchelor to get him cocaine and fentanyl.
Batchelor provided a substance containing cocaine and a substance containing fentanyl to SN, who then took those drugs with him to visit his parents' home, per court documents.
Once there, SN used some of the cocaine and fentanyl, which caused him to experience a fatal overdose. He was found dead in his parents' bathroom the next day.
"The medical examiner determined that the cause of death was cocaine and fentanyl toxicity," the DOJ said.
Virginia State Police assisted in this investigation.
