Goochland names next county administrator after previous administrator resigned

GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Goochland County has chosen its new county administrator following the resignation of the previous county administrator earlier this year.
On the morning of Friday, May 23, the Goochland County Board of Supervisors appointed Jeremy Raley, the current chief of staff for the Virginia Department of Education, as the county's next county administrator.
Raley has over two decades of public service experience at both the state and local levels, and has served as the Superintendent for Goochland County Public Schools for nearly seven years prior to his time at the Virginia Department of Education.

“I am deeply honored by the opportunity to once again serve the Goochland County community," Raley said. “I look forward to working collaboratively with the Board of Supervisors to further their commitment to high-quality, effective, and efficient services. Together, we will continue to ensure our community remains strong, vibrant, and prosperous for the residents and businesses who call Goochland County home.”
Raley's appointment comes after Victor Carpenter submitted his resignation on Jan. 24, 2025, after nearly three years as the county administrator. The search for the new county administrator began in early 2025 and included posting on leading government association sites such as the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and the Virginia Local Government Management Association (VLGMA).
After a 30-day recruitment period, Raley is set to assume his new role on June 9.
