Goochland Schools superintendent abruptly fired at special Tuesday board meeting
GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Goochland School Board members unanimously voted to fire the current school superintendent without cause on Tuesday after less than two years on the job.
In a county school board meeting on Tuesday, April 2, the school superintendent, Dr. Michael Cromartie, was "unanimously terminated."
Cromartie will receive a severance package which includes a year's worth of salary and some benefits, such as retirement contributions and health insurance. His year's worth of salary will be paid in monthly installments.
The school board never revealed any reasons for his firing in the special meeting, but they unanimously approved contract negotiations for the new superintendent. There is no information about who that is or when their hiring will be effective as of the time of reporting.
His current salary is $189,000, according to the school board. Cromartie's termination is effective Friday, April 4.
Cromartie came to Goochland County Public Schools from Portsmouth schools in the fall of 2023.
