Grace period ends for speed cameras at two Richmond schools on Wednesday
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The grace period for violations caught by speed cameras at two Richmond schools will end on Wednesday.
The grace period for speeding violations at the Richmond High School for the Arts, located at the 4000 block of Midlothian Turnpike, and Thomas Jefferson High School, located at the 1400 block of Malvern Avenue, will end on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
According to the Richmond Police Department, any violations at these locations on or after Thursday, Feb. 27 will result in a citation.
The department said these new locations have been capturing speeding violations in front of the schools during student arrival and dismissal times, resulting in warnings being sent to the registered owners of the vehicles during the grace period.

During the police department's annual crime briefing on Thursday, Jan. 16, officials said as of Jan. 6, $334,372 was received in citations from speeding cameras near schools during the last three months of 2024.
Richmond Police said the two pilot locations at Linwood Holton Elementary School and Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts have been in operation since March 2024 and are continuing to issue violations, as well as the 11 expansion locations that have been in operation since October 2024.
