Grand opening event to be held for new skatepark in Louisa County
LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A grand opening event will be held for a new skatepark in Louisa County on Saturday, where people will be able to skateboard, bike or skate on several ramps and quarter pipes.
A grand opening event for a new skatepark located at 540 Industrial Drive in Louisa County will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20.
According to the county, the skatepark will have a half pipe ramp, multiple quarter pipes, wedge ramps and more for people to skateboard, bike or skate on. Helmets and closed-toed shoes will be required to use the skatepark.
Remarks from county leaders will begin at 11 a.m., with the park to be open from dusk to dawn daily following the event's ribbon-cutting ceremony in the afternoon. Free Kona Ice and raffles will be ongoing through 2 p.m. Saturday.
The county said the community has "long awaited the return of the park adjacent to the Betty Queen Center" as the previous skatepark was removed for a temporary, multi-year location for the Louisa County Department of Health.
With the Department of Health clinical and environmental offices now located at 101 Woolfolk Ave., the skatepark has returned to its address at 540 Industrial Drive, according to the county.
“We’re very pleased to once again offer a skatepark to our community and particularly to our youth,” said James Smith, Louisa County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Director. “This project is a wonderful example that community input matters, and we look forward to seeing our residents enjoying this space.”
