Haleon to expand Richmond research and development facility
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Governor Glenn Youngkin announced on Monday that a global healthcare company will be expanding its research and development facility located in the City of Richmond. The expansion was announced in a press conference held on Monday, Jan. 27, detailing how Haleon, a global health company, plans to invest $54.2 million for upgrades to the Richmond facility. Additionally, a five-year internship program will be launched in partnership with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) with help from equal investments provided by Haleon and the state. The Haleon-Commonwealth Consumer Healthcare Internship Program for Advanced Life Sciences was built from previously existing programs at Haleon, and aims to help provide undergraduate students at VCU with paid opportunities within their new Pharmaceutical Science degree program. There will also be opportunities for students from other higher education institutions in Virginia. Also, a performance-based grant of $950,000 was approved by Youngkin to go towards this project. "We're going to continue to strive to do the things that make Virginia the very best place to live, work and raise a family -- the very best place to start and build and expand a business," Youngkin said during the press conference. "That is the future of our commonwealth." For more information, and to view the full announcement, click here.
