Halloween events happening at Central Virginia state parks in October

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation 9DCR) has put out a list of Halloween events for people to attend at state parks throughout the Central Virginia region this October. Spooky Sundays People can take a trip out to Pocahontas State Park in Chesterfield on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to participate in Spooky Sundays -- an educational opportunity that combines the Halloween theme with misunderstood creatures. This Sunday will be about Bewitching Bats -- as the last week of October is International Bat Week - and there will be plenty of crafts and handouts for people to learn about bats at their own pace. Time Travel to the Cemetery For those looking to lean even more into the spookiness of the season this Sunday, visit Powhatan State Park on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. for Time Travel to the Cemetery -- a chance to discover more about those that rest at the historic cemetery within the park. Through the use of historical records and photos, participants might even be able to solve the questions posed about one special grave -- Alpheus Hudson. For more information, click here. Spooktacular Nature Scavenger Hunt If you're willing to travel a bit farther into the state for a Halloween themed event, visit Twin Lakes State Park in Green Bay on Friday, Oct. 25 from 10 to 11 a.m. to take part in a scavenger hunt along the one mile long Goodwin Lake Trail.
