Hampton man arrested after high-speed chase in New Kent

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Hampton man was hit with several charges after a high-speed chase in New Kent County on Saturday.

On Saturday, April 5, deputies with the New Kent County Sheriff's Office witnessed a reckless driver on Interstate 64.

When they attempted to perform a traffic stop, the driver reportedly fled authorities, moving at a high speed.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies pursued the driver, with the chase ultimately ending on Route 106. The driver, a Hampton man, was then arrested.

Over $3 million worth of narcotics seized by Virginia State Police in one week

He faces a total of six charges out of New Kent County, including:

  • One count of felony eluding
  • Two counts of reckless driving -- one general, one for high speed
  • One count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
  • One count of driving two abreast
  • One count of improperly passing on the shoulder of a highway

In addition to these new charges, the suspect was reportedly wanted by several localities for various offenses.

This included two counts of grant theft auto and two counts of grand larceny with intent to sell out of Spotsylvania County, one count of felony eluding out of Chesterfield County, one count of felony eluding out of York County and two counts of felony obtaining money by false pretenses out of Hampton.
