Hanover County ICE processing facility planned by DHS, officials say
HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) processing facility might be coming to Hanover County, according to county officials.
Hanover County officials said they received a letter from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Jan. 22 confirming the agency's intent to buy and operate an ICE processing facility in Hanover. The facility would be located in a warehouse on Lakeridge Parkway, per officials.
Officials said the project was not initiated by the county. Hanover now has 30 days to respond to the letter.

The county said it plans to provide comments on the issue within the allowed timeframe.
Officials said the county's board of supervisors has not met to discuss the notice. The board plans to do so at the next regular meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28.
The county said it will provide a statement on the issue after the meeting. No other information is available as of reporting.
