Hanover County School Board appoints Lisa Pennycuff as official superintendent

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Hanover County School Board has appointed Dr. Lisa Pennycuff as the official superintendent of Hanover Schools Tuesday evening.

During a school board meeting in the evening on Tuesday, April 8, members voted 6 to 1 to appoint Pennycuff as the official superintendent. School board member Karen Lynne voted against the appointment.

Pennycuff's first day as the school division's official superintendent is Wednesday, April 16.

"On behalf of the school board, we are greatly excited to have Dr. Pennycuff continue her leadership in our school division, advancing our long-standing tradition of excellence," said school board chair Bob May. "Since her appointment as our interim superintendent last summer, Dr. Pennycuff has exhibited a spirit of collaboration, professionalism and, most importantly, a deep commitment to the success of our students, faculty and staff."

Pennycuff has served as the acting superintendent of Hanover County Public Schools since August of 2024.
