Hanover County Sheriff’s Office asks public for help in identifying four people in shooting incident

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Hanover County Sheriff's Office is asking the public's help to identify four people -- who it believes are teen boys or young men -- in connection with a shooting incident that occurred Tuesday evening.
At 8:23 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, deputies with the Hanover County Sheriff's Office responded to the 7500 block of Mechanicsville Turnpike in the county's Old Mechanicsville area for a reported altercation involving a gun.
When deputies arrived, officials said all people involved in the incident had fled the scene.
Based on witness statements and video footage, the sheriff's office said investigators believe that four teens or young men between 16 and 20 years old were involved in a physical altercation when one person hit another person in the head with a firearm, simultaneously firing the gun.
The sheriff's office responded immediately to process the scene, collect evidence and begin the investigation, which continues after lasting throughout the night.
Officials said the suspect who fired the gun has been identified as a 17-year-old boy. Due to his age, the sheriff's office said no further identifying details would be released.
The sheriff's office said it continues working to identify the other three people involved. As of reporting, officials said no one has reported injuries in connection with the incident.
A spokesperson for the sheriff's office said anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant information like pictures, videos, screenshots or audio records, should report and share them with officials.
"Even if you believe your content does not show the altercation directly, it may provide critical context or clues that could assist investigators," the sheriff's office said.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office at 804-365-6140.
