Hanover DASH launches new free rider app

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Hanover County has announced the launch of its new free rider app called Hanover DASH.

The Hanover DASH app is a new personalized program that makes ride scheduling easier for county residents who are 65 and over, as well as individuals with disabilities.

DASH will operate from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, transportation services extend throughout the county and up to 7 miles outside of the county's borders -- taking residents to destinations like doctors' visits, grocery stores, workplaces, events and more.

The services cost $5 per ride and $10 for round trip, also a caregiver is welcomed to ride along with no additional fees.

“The DASH program empowers older adults and residents with disabilities to be more independent and rely less on family and friends for their transportation,” said Susan Richards, a senior services specialist with the Department of Community Resources and manager of the DASH program. “The new app makes booking rides and tracking drivers even more convenient."

According to the county, this program stems from a collaboration with the transportation network company, UZURV.

Residents can download the UZURV Ride app from the App Store or Google Play. However, new riders are required to complete the Hanover DASH registration form with proof of address, age or disability.
