Hanover deputies arrest man accused of construction woes

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Patrick Farley, the man accused of construction fraud involving a Hanover father, has been arrested. Wednesday morning, Tim Haufler took a sigh of relief when he learned the man he says left him high and dry after plans to renovate his kitchen was arrested. In January, Haufler says he paid Patrick Farley nearly $13,000 to upgrade his kitchen including new tile flooring and cabinetry. By June, he learned Farley never fully paid for the materials needed for the project and months later he never heard back from Farley. Haufler reached out to 8News to share his construction woes with the hope that no one else had to go through what he experienced. And, you know, I just don't want him to do it to anyone else," Haufler said. For months, 8News has been investigating Central Virginians' home improvement horrors uncovering fraudulent contractors and how to protect yourself from construction scams. 8News learned Farley previously pleaded guilty to construction-related fraud charges in Hanover in 2007 and in Chesterfield in 2016. After 8News reported Haufler's construction woes, Farley was arrested. Wednesday morning, Farley appeared in court virtually for his arraignment after being taken to Pamunkey Regional Jail. Today's court appearance is a welcome one for Haufler who has since tried to move on from the trouble he says he experienced. “I don't wish him any harm. I just don't. I don't think he should be in the business of refinishing kitchens or anything, for that matter," Haufler said. Farley was granted a $2,500 bond and given a court-appointed attorney. Farley is expected to appear in court again in February 2025.
