Hanover residents can recycle household waste, shred documents at free event
HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Hanover County residents can dispose of household waste and shred sensitive documents for free during a recycling event on Saturday.
From 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 1, a free recycling event will be held at the Mechanicsville Convenience Center, located at 7427 Verdi Lane.
During the event, Hanover residents will be able to safely -- and without cost -- dispose of a total of five gallons each of hazardous waste materials. This includes items like:
- Oil-based paints
- Household cleaners
- Flammables
- Pesticides and herbicides
- Corrosive liquids
- Solids, including pool/spa chemicals
- Acids
- Drain cleaner
- Art and hobby supplies
Batteries, explosives, tube fluorescent light bulbs and radioactive materials will not be accepted.

Additionally, Hanover residents can bring documents for secure shredding at no cost. The maximum amount of documents that can be shredded per resident is the equivalent of four 10-by-12-by-18-inch boxes or paper bags.
