‘He will be truly missed’: Henrico grieves county employee killed in crash
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Henrico County is grieving after a county employee of nearly 10 years died in a single-vehicle crash Monday evening.
At about 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 28, officers with the Henrico County Police Division were called to the intersection of Hungary Spring and Staples Mill Road for the report of a single-vehicle crash.
It was determined that 46-year-old Tony Darrell Volley of Henrico was moving north on Hungary Spring Road at a high rate of speed when he hit several power poles. He died at the scene.
According to police, it's possible he was experiencing a medical emergency -- but the investigation into the circumstances of this crash is ongoing.

Henrico officials told 8News that Volley was a sports facility supervisor with the county's Division of Recreation & Parks.
In a statement provided to 8News, county manager John A. Vithoulkas said Volley began working with the department in 2016 and was promoted to his current role in 2024, serving mostly at both Dorey and RF&P parks.

Vithoulkas described Volley as both a coworker and a friend to many in Henrico.
"He was admired and respected by his colleagues — and by the park patrons he served — for his exemplary work ethic, his team-first mindset and his steady, positive attitude," he said. "Tony put others first in his work and always sought to provide the best level of service both for his coworkers and for our residents. He will be truly missed by his Recreation & Parks family."
Vithoulkas asked that the Henrico community support Volley's loved ones in this difficult time -- from his family to his friends to the coworkers who cared for him.
"As a Henrico family, we share their grief at this difficult time," he said.
Additionally, Vithoulkas ordered that the Henrico County flag fly half-staff at all county buildings and facilities from sunrise to sunset on Friday, Aug. 1, "in honor and memory of Tony's service to our country and our community."
