Heavy smoke pours from Richmond packaging company

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond firefighters are at the scene of an incident at a Commerce Road packaging company, where heavy smoke can be seen pouring out of the building.

Firefighters with the Richmond Fire Department were called to Sonoco Product Company, located at 1850 Commerce Road, just before 10 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1. Heavy smoke was visible from the upper levels of the building.

Details on this incident are limited as of the time of reporting. 8News team members witnessed a massive fire department presence at the facility.

8News reporter Victoria Lucas spoke to a battalion chief at the scene, who said that these crews would likely be working to contain this incident for the rest of the night.

That chief added that no injuries have been reported as a result of this incident. This included a woman who was reported to have been in the building at the time. She was able to get herself out safely.
