‘HenBIKEo’ event promises day of cycling fun at Henrico park
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Henrico County is calling cycling enthusiasts of all skill levels to participate in a day of bike-centric fun on Saturday.
On Saturday, Sept. 20, "HenBIKEo" will take over Crump Park, located at 3400 Mountain Road. Presented by Henrico Recreation and Parks, this family-friendly event hopes to showcase Henrico's diverse cycling opportunities.
There will be local cycling businesses and nonprofits in attendance, mountain bike demos and clinics, cycling classes and more. Attendees will also be able to vote on their favorite bikes as part of the Bike Beauty Pageant.
For the little ones, children can rent a kid's bike and helmet for free from WeeWheel and enjoy a kid's skills park, as well as Lil Belgium kid's races.

HenBIKEo's festivities will officially begin at 9:30 a.m. with cyclocross (CX) races presented by THR Cycling. These races will continue until 3 p.m., with participants required to register in advance.
"[CX is] arguably the most engaging and potentially goofiest form of bike racing, especially from a spectator’s point of view," the county said in a Sept. 16 press release. "As CX racers make several laps on a winding course, it’s tradition for spectators to heckle and give riders 'handups,' which are easily grabbable snacks or drinks."
Controversial Rosie’s will soon open in Henrico
The majority of the CX course surrounds the main event area, which will be open from noon to 5 p.m., according to the county.
Those who ride a bike to the event can get themselves a HenBIKEo t-shirt. There is satellite parking at Glen Allen Elementary and at the end of Brookley Road. Follow the marked route, park with the Bike Valet and then use that ticket to get your shirt.
