Henrico County expands its 2025 Juneteenth celebrations

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Henrico County has expanded this year's Juneteenth celebrations with more events to honor the holiday.

Henrico County announced that the Division of Recreation & Parks will host its annual Juneteenth celebration, which marks the 160th anniversary of the end of slavery in the United States. However, the festivities won't end there -- the county will be hosting events on both Friday, June 20, and Saturday, June 21.

Here's a look at what residents can expect from this year's Juneteenth celebrations:

Juneteenth Jamboree

  • Friday, June 20, at 5 p.m.
  • Varina High School, located at 7053 Messer Road
  • The Juneteenth Jamboree will kick off with a community parade at George F. Baker Elementary and will move through Messer Road until reaching Varina High School. Then at 6:30 p.m., six of Henrico's high schools will face off in seven-on-seven football games. Individuals under the age of 17 will need to be accompanied by an adult who is over 21.

Juneteenth Celebration at Dorey Park

  • Saturday, June 21, from 4 to 10 p.m.
  • Dorey Park, located at 2999 Darbytown Road
  • The Juneteenth Celebration is returning to Dorey Park, featuring a kids zone, musical performances and a vendor fair highlighting 160 local businesses. Guests will hear live music from DJ Lonnie B, Art of Noise, EU, Sugar Bear and the Chuck Brown Band. In addition, the event will feature a Mobile Museum Experience, bringing a museum on wheels to share the rich history of Virginia.
