Henrico County students recognized in Scholastic Art + Writing competition

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Henrico County Public School students earned the highest number of recognitions in this year's Scholastic Art + Writing competition.

According to the school system, at the high school level, students earned 58 Gold Keys, 89 Silver Keys and 146 Honorable Mentions, along with four Gold Key Portfolios, seven Silver Key Portfolios and five Honorable Mention Portfolios.

Henrico County middle schoolers won six Gold Keys, seven Silver Keys and 20 Honorable Mentions.

An in-person show of the students' work will be hosted at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, located at 1812 W. Main St., from Saturday, Feb. 8 through Sunday, Feb. 23.

Four of the works were among the 10 in the region to receive the Gold Key Portfolio Award, while senior Ashley Richardson was one of five students in the region — along with Deep Run junior Eddie Lim — nominated for the prestigious American Visions Award. Douglas S. Freeman senior Genevieve Lin was also nominated for an American Voices Award for her essay writing.
