Henrico man turns himself in to Richmond police custody in connection to December deadly shooting

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A man turned himself in to police custody following a deadly shooting that occurred in South Richmond in December. On Wednesday, Jan. 22, 58-year-old Walter Coleman, of Henrico, turned himself in. He was charged with murder and the use of a firearm in connection to the December murder. Shortly after 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, officers received a call regarding a robbery in the 3600 block of Richmond Highway. The call was later upgraded to a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers found a man lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. He was later identified as 37-year-old Wesley Jefferson, of Richmond. Jefferson was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead. "The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death," according to a release from the Richmond Police Department.
