Henrico to host third annual dog walk event to support homeless animals

HENRICO COUNTY, Va (WRIC) -- The Henrico Humane Society will host its third annual "Bark in the Park" event on Saturday.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the walk starting at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Crump Park, 3400 Mountain Road, in Glen Allen. Proceeds from the event will go toward homeless animals in the community.
The 2k walk will have several activities such as vendors, pet contests, an agility course for pets, face painting, inflatables and food trucks.
"Bark in the Park is a free, family-friendly outdoor event with a 2k walk that helps raise money for the dogs and cats in our care," said event organizer and volunteer Melissa Golden. "We have several new attractions this year, including a Kids Fun Run, an agility course for dogs and a raffle."
While admission and parking for the event are free, the Henrico Humane Society (HHS) emphasized that it is raising money through the dog walk.
Pre-registration for adults is $15 or $20. Children aged 6 to 12 are $5.
Children under age 6 and dogs are also free.
"Our goal is to raise $20,000, which will help cover the cost of expensive medical care for the animals we rescue, especially those that are sick or injured,” Golden said.
Adoptable dogs from HHS and the Henrico County Police Animal Shelter will also be at the walk.
Those who plan to take their furry friends to the event are urged to follow the following guidelines:
- All dogs must be leashed
- All dogs must be vaccinated
- All dogs must be at least four months old
- Retractable leashes are strongly encouraged as they can be dangerous to pets and people around them
