Hill of Heroes to return to Virginia War Memorial for 7th year

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Hill of Heroes will return to the Virginia War Memorial for its seventh consecutive year this summer, to honor those that have lost their lives serving the nation.

From June 27 to July 11, people will have the opportunity to see around 12,000 miniature American flags placed on the hillsides surrounding the Virginia War Memorial located at 621 S. Belvidere Street.

Each flag represents the Virginia men and women whose lives were lost in military service from World War II up until the present day.

Those interested in placing the flags can help Virginia War Memorial staff starting at 8 a.m. on Friday, June 27. People can also assist in removing the flags at 8 a.m. on Friday, July 11.
