Historian to discuss ‘Queer Virginia: New Histories in the Old Dominion’ at Library of Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Library of Virginia will host a book talk on Tuesday by historian Charles H. Ford on "Queer Virginia: New Stories of the Old Dominion," which he co-edited with Jeffrey L. Littlejohn.

The free book talk will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Library of Virginia, located at 800 E. Broad St.

“Queer Virginia: New Stories in the Old Dominion" offers a record of ways that LGBTQ+ people throughout Virginia have persevered and fought for their rights.

The book highlights the life of Hannah Nokes, a Black transgender woman who overcame discrimination in Loudoun County during the 1930s, as well as the story of the Hershee Bar, a historic lesbian bar in Norfolk, among other topics.
