Holiday delays announced for recycling, trash services in Central Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVWMA) has announced that residential recycling and trash services will be delayed for the holidays.

On Monday, Dec. 22, the CVWMA said that there will be no recycling and trash service on Christmas, Dec. 25, and New Year's Day, Jan 1.

The CVWMA also said that Thursday and Friday collection will be delayed by one day both this week and next.

Here are a few reminders about properly disposing of holiday waste this season:

  • Please reuse wrapping paper, tissue paper, bows and ribbons. They are not accepted at local recycling programs.
  • Properly break down cardboard boxes and place them inside recycling containers.
  • There will be designated drop-off sites for overflowing recycling. Check here for your local location.
  • Chesterfield County, Henrico County and Richmond residents will be able to drop off food scraps for composting. Find one of the 22 locations near you here.
