Hopewell students selling custom t-shirts to support beloved employee’s medical expenses
HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) -- Students at Hopewell's New Hope Academy are selling custom t-shirts to support an employee who was hospitalized earlier this year.
Hopewell City Public Schools announced the fundraiser on its Facebook on Monday, March 24.
The students leading this philanthropic charge are from New Hope Academy's entrepreneurship class, which -- as part of its "Hearts in Action: Giving Back" project -- created a custom t-shirt in support of Hopewell Schools employee Joe Woodley.
According to the school district, Woodley -- described as a "pillar of [the] community" -- was hospitalized earlier in 2025. Through this fundraiser, the students hope to help pay his medical expenses.
When will the cherry blossoms bloom in Virginia?
"[Woodley] has always been known for his kindness and selflessness," the school district said. "Whether working in multiple schools across Hopewell City Public Schools or cheering on students at every Blue Devil football and basketball game, he has consistently given so much of himself to others. Now, it’s our turn to give back."
You can support this fundraiser by buying the limited edition custom t-shirt -- pictured below, alongside a photo of Woodley, himself -- or by donating to the cause directly. The shirt is priced at $20 and it can be ordered here in sizes S through 3-XL.

All proceeds will go towards Woodley and his medical costs.
"This is a special opportunity for us to come together and show our gratitude for someone who has dedicated his time and energy to our community," the school district said.
