How Virginians can check their flood risk level
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- It's Flood Awareness Week, and the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is reminding people of a tool they can use to check their flood risk level.
The Virginia Flood Risk Information System (VFRIS) is a tool Virginia residents can use to enter their address and find out the likelihood of their area experiencing flooding.
According to the DCR, the tool has been updated for 2025, and now utilizes data from multiple different sources which offers additional information on top of flood risk details -- including locations of dams, protected lands, critical habitats and more
Click here to access VFRIS and find out your flood risk. For more information on how to use the tool, and how to access the other data layers, visit the DCR website.
