ASHLAND, Va. (WRIC) - It's full steam ahead for Ashland Train Day which is set to take over historic downtown Ashland on Saturday, April 26 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The free railroad extravaganza will feature model and kiddie trains, Touch-A-Truck, vendors, food options, live entertainment, a scavenger hunt and more.
Officials are celebrating the 21st year of the festival, which has grown to attract around 20,000 people every year.
Great 8 Events: 21st annual Ashland Train Day
"Ashland was literally built around the trains, so it is so important to us to spend at least one day a year to go and wave at Amtrak and CSX as they come through the middle of downtown," Louise Keeton, Ashland Downtown Association director of operations, told 8News.
Three park-and-ride options with shuttles will be available at:
- Ashland-Junction Shopping Center (167 Junction Dr.)
- Ashland Hanover Shopping Center (205 N. Washington Hwy)
- First Baptist Church Ashland
The shuttles start at 11 a.m. and the final shuttle will depart at 3:45 p.m. There are several road closures that will be in place throughout Ashland that can be found here.
