Inmate dies at Greensville Correctional Center, case under investigation

GREENSVILLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- An inmate died at a Virginia correctional center in Greensville County on Sunday.

On Sunday, Feb. 8, a person incarcerated at the Greensville Correctional Center in Greensville County died, according to a spokesperson for the Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC).

The spokesperson did not provide any further details, including the cause or manner of this person's death or any identifying information about them.

"The VADOC`s Office of Law Enforcement Services (OLES) is investigating the matter," the spokesperson said. "Any loss of life is tragic."

No additional information on this incident is available as of the time of reporting.

Greensville Correctional Center has been in the news cycle for inmate deaths multiple times in recent months, including in November 2025, when the family of 42-year-old Princeo Brooks shared how they learned about their loved one's murder at the facility through an 8News article.

In October 2025, 8News spoke to the family of 40-year-old Christopher Armentrout, who had also died while incarcerated at Greensville Correctional Center. They said that VADOC had yet to tell them how Armentrout died.

A December 2025 audit from the Office of the State Inspector General (OSIG) found that half of the facility's staff positions were vacant.
