‘It’s scary, it could’ve happened to any of us that day’: Chesterfield neighbors rattled after Christmas Eve home invasion, robbery

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Chesterfield County Police Department is investigating a home invasion and robbery that took place the night of Christmas Eve, resulting in multiple people being injured and a person taken to the hospital. According to police, the incident happened at around 7 p.m. when two men forcibly entered a house in the 7600 block of Ratling Drive. The suspects reportedly took money and other things from the home. One man who lives in the area told 8News he heard the chaos, leaving him and multiple other people rattled. "It's scary, it could've happened to any of us that day," said Gini Taylor, who was close by at his father's house at the time of the crime. "I hope they're fine and just get better security." Taylor said he and his family are still shaken up, especially after hearing multiple people were injured as a result of the incident. "If it can happen to them, it can happen to anybody," Taylor said. Taylor said the neighborhood is usually very quiet and that violence like this is virtually unheard of. "It's usually quiet," Taylor said. "If it's not cold out, kids are out playing with their friends." It's crimes like these that remind Taylor of why they have cameras and security up, similar to most other homes in the neighborhood, but he said they might install some extra security to be cautious. "That's usually when families come together and that's when true tragedies can happen -- on holidays," Taylor said. "Probably just try to keep an eye out more on our surroundings. I do know we'll probably be on the lookout for more cars that pass by and look outside like, 'what's going on out there?'" According to police, the suspects are described as males wearing all-black clothing, gloves and masks. Chesterfield Police continues to investigate. Anyone with information or a home surveillance video related to this incident is asked to contact the department at 804-748-1251.
