John Marshall High School senior dies following Sunday shooting in Richmond
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A senior at John Marshall High School died following a shooting on Sunday, just over two weeks before he was supposed to graduate.
At 2:15 a.m. on Sunday, May 11, officers with the Richmond Police Department responded to the 600 block of South 2nd Street to assist Capitol Police officers with a report of random gunfire. Officers received information that someone may have been shot and that the victim was no longer at the scene.
A second call then came in saying an 18-year-old, identified as Sherrod Bosher, had been dropped off at a local hospital with a life-threatening gunshot wound.
Bosher then died due to his injuries, police said.
In an email shared in the morning on Monday, May 12, Richmond Public Schools Superintendent Jason Kamras confirmed that Bosher was a senior at John Marshall High School and was killed in the shooting.
Dr. Shonda Harris-Muhammed, 6th District Richmond City School Board member, shared a message from the administration on social media in the evening on Sunday, May 11, regarding Bosher's death.
"It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Sherrod Bosher, a beloved member of the John Marshall High School Class of 2025," Harris said. "Sherrod was a part of our school family, and his loss is deeply felt across our community."
Harris added that the school system's Crisis Team would be on-site on Monday to offer support to anyone who may need it. In addition, the message said there will be designated spaces available for reflection, conversation and comfort.
Bosher would have graduated on Wednesday, May 28.
