Kings Dominion gives first look at car for new Rapterra coaster

DOSWELL, Va. (WRIC) -- Kings Dominion unveiled the car for its new Rapterra roller coaster today, giving fans a closer look at the specific designs of a soon-to-be record breaking attraction. The unveiling took place at the annual IAAPA Expo event down in Orlando, and provided people an opportunity to see the cars of the new coaster up close for the first time. Rapterra is a wing coaster, meaning that the seats of the car are positioned on either side of the track rather than directly above it, which aims to give passengers the "sensation of flight" throughout the ride. Once completed, the ride will stand at 145 feet tall and will be over 3,000 feet in length, with a ride duration time of 89 seconds. The top speed will be 65 miles per hour. This car reveal comes after an announcement this past summer that Rapterra will open officially during the 2025 season, just in time for the park's 50th anniversary.
