Kings Dominion’s Halloween Haunt delivers a frighteningly good time

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Kings Dominion is once again bringing heart-pounding thrills and spine-chilling scares with its annual Halloween Haunt event.
Featuring brand new attractions and terrifying experiences, the amusement park has transformed into a haven for horror lovers this October.
More than 300 cast and crew members work behind the scenes to bring Halloween Haunt to life. From makeup to costumes and immersive sets, the preparation is as intense as the scares themselves.
“We have about 300 characters each night. We have about five hours to get them in and out,” said Jayson Walton, the event’s lead makeup designer.
It takes just 15 minutes for each actor to transform into a ghoulish figure ready to terrify guests.
Tyler, a makeup artist on the team, described the creative evolution of their work.
“We've progressed from using cotton and latex to making latex masks and sculpting appliances. Jason and I sculpt a lot of stuff," he said.
Once the actors are fully made up, the horror begins. With six haunted mazes and countless scare zones across the park, guests are in for an adrenaline-packed experience.
“I get joy out of giving all of the guests that come through the experience of Haunt,” said Paige Forman, who plays Madame De La Folie. “If they're scared, great. If they’re just enjoying the ambiance, that’s amazing too.”
Malcolm Washington, who portrays a zombie named Ted, said the event is more than just frightful fun—it’s personally rewarding.
“It’s such a confidence boost. It actually gets me out of my comfort zone and being around a ton of people doing different things throughout the park. It’s just so much fun," he said.
One of the newest scare zones, The Catacombs, sets the tone for what visitors can expect -- a haunting atmosphere filled with screams, surprises, and sinister sights.
Whether you're looking for tricks, treats, or terrifying thrills, Kings Dominion’s Halloween Haunt is promising guests a scare-filled experience that’s sure to haunt their memories long after the night ends.
