Lane closures planned for Westmoreland Place area for water main renewal

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The City of Richmond's Department of Public Utilities (DPU) is set to begin a water main renewal project in the Westmoreland Place area starting Monday, August 25.

The project is expected to last approximately four months, weather permitting.

Crews will be working Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., though some tasks may require after-hours or weekend work. They are working to replace water mains and upgrade fire hydrants.

The project will affect multiple streets in the area, including Cary Street Road, Virginia Avenue, Old Lock Lane, Lock Lane, Lockgreen Circle, Chairman Road, Pocahontas Avenue, East Hillcrest Avenue, Bolling Avenue, Powhatan Avenue and Westmoreland Place.

Drivers should expect lane closures, detours and potential disruptions to on-street parking in the affected areas. Officials advise planning extra travel time while crews are on site.

The City of Richmond says the project is part of ongoing efforts to maintain and improve the city’s water infrastructure and ensure safe, reliable service for residents.
