Large fire destroys Petersburg home, burns through brush
PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- Firefighters battled a large fire in Petersburg that burned down a home and impacted nearby land Monday evening.
Just before 6:45 p.m. on Monday, June 23, Petersburg Fire Rescue & Emergency Services said its crews were at the scene of a house fire at the intersection of W. Wythe and Perry streets.
Firefighters found a two-story home with heavy fire visible from the outside. At the time of its initial announcement, fire officials said the flames were threatening another nearby home and it was "beginning to ignite due to radiant heat."
By 6:57 p.m., fire officials said additional units were called in to assist. Another crew was sent to a secondary brush fire near the scene which spread to involve a vehicle.

The above photos, taken by 8News at the scene, show that the involved home was essentially destroyed by the fire.
No one was hurt as a result of the fire, per fire officials at the scene.
The home was reportedly vacant. The nearby residence was damaged by heat, but did not properly catch fire, according to officials.
