LIST: Where are Virginians reporting seeing UFOs?

RICHMOND, Va. (STACKER/WRIC) -- Do aliens actually exist? Whether they do or not, thousands upon thousands of people believe they have seen signs of life beyond Earth. But just how big is the UFO craze in Virginia?

The National UFO Reporting Center collects data on UFO sightings, providing a way for those who think they've glimpsed extraterrestrial life to report what they experienced. Volunteers then investigate the reported sightings to, when possible, separate fact from fiction.

The center's data, which reflects all reports since 1995, shows that the state with the most sightings is California, with more than 16,500 reports as of April 25, 2025. It's followed by Florida, Washington and Texas, respectively -- but even Florida has only half the reports that California does.

But what do the numbers look like in Virginia?

On the whole, there have been a total of 2,813 reported UFO sightings in Virginia, per the National UFO Reporting Center. This means Virginia ranks 19th in reported sightings among all American states and territories.

From those sightings, here are the 10 Virginia cities with the most reports -- and Richmond is among the top five.
