Local Cub Scout donates 10,000 boxes of cereal to Hanover County community

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — With Thanksgiving less than two weeks away, a Cub Scout group over the weekend came together to learn the importance of giving back to the community.

At its second annual Lasagna Luau on Sunday, Nov. 16, Cub Scout Pack 799 bought and distributed more than 10,000 boxes of cereal to the Hanover County community. Organizers said the cereals will provide breakfast for a local children's food ministry for the next five to six months.

"Part of being a Scout is being friendly, courteous, kind and giving back to the community," said Cub Master Ryan Berry. "You either learn good values or you learn bad values. We're trying at an early age to take children, plant good seeds, water those seeds so as they grow in age... they're hopefully good citizens."

Berry said half of the money raised for the pack was used to purchase the food they're giving away.
