Logging skidder catches fire in wooded area of Prince George County

PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A logging skidder caught fire in a wooded area of Prince George County Thursday morning.

At 9:42 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4, Prince George County Fire and EMS were dispatched to a reported commercial vehicle fire in a wooded area near the 2600 block of Powells Creek Road.

When crews arrived, they found a logging skidder on fire in the woods, a few miles from the road.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control. The fire was reportedly contained to the skidder and did not spread to nearby brush or forested areas.

There were no reported injuries, officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Prince George County Fire and EMS reminded residents and workers in rural areas to report any signs of fire immediately and to prioritize safety when operating heavy equipment.
