House fire along Hawkins Wood Circle in Chesterfield displaces five people

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Five people are displaced after a fire blazed from a home along Hawkins Wood Circle in Chesterfield County Monday morning.

At 11:25 a.m. on Monday, April 6, Chesterfield County Fire and EMS received multiple calls about a house fire in the 1500 block of Hawkins Wood Circle.

Officials said the first firefighters who arrived on the scene found a heavy fire coming from the back of the home.

One person was home at the time, according to officials, who was able to get out of the home safely due to working smoke alarms and his dog barking to alert him.

Authorities said one person was treated on scene for smoke inhalation and refused to be taken to the hospital. Officials said a total of five people were displaced -- including three adults and two children.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but due to the significant amount of damage, a Chesterfield County Fire and EMS spokesperson said the cause will likely be undetermined.

Officials said when 911 callers reported the fire, the Chesterfield County Emergency Communications Center sent a prepared live link through its Prepared911 system to the callers and see the extensive blaze coming from the home before arriving on scene and sending more resources.
