Louisa asking residents to conserve water during maintenance project
LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Louisa County Water Authority is asking residents to conserve water during a maintenance project at the Northeast Creek Water Treatment Plant in August.
According to a social post from the county, Louisa's Water Authority is requesting voluntary water conservation from Northeast Creek Water Treatment Plant customers during a maintenance project from Saturday, Aug. 9, to Sunday, Aug. 24.
This water conservation request includes customers along Davis Highway, Jefferson Highway and the Towns of Louisa and Mineral.
“This is not an emergency or underlying water supply issue, but rather a production constraint during maintenance which will ensure the ongoing quality and efficiency of our Northeast Creek Water Treatment Plant’s water delivery system. We appreciate our users’ assistance in maintaining sufficient water capacity during this time.” Louisa County Water Authority Chairman Judson Foster
The maintenance has been planned for several months and will include work on filtration equipment to "ensure functionality and regulatory compliance," according to the county.
The county added that production will be reduced by 50% while work happens, and during this time, staff will work additional shifts to produce water.
More storage has been brought online, and the Authority has also arranged for more supplies if needed, per the county.
The voluntary conservation is "intended to ensure uninterrupted service to end users, including businesses critically dependent on water (such as dialysis centers), fire suppression and related emergency needs," according to the county.
The county is offering the following water conservation tips during this time:
- Sweep your driveway instead of washing it.
- Wash your car, truck, trailer, or any other type of mobile equipment at a commercial carwash (most recycle water).
- Check for and fix leaks.
- Rinse fruits and vegetables in a bowl of water instead of under running water.
- Store a pitcher of water in the refrigerator instead of running water until it is cold.
- Wash full loads of laundry with cold water.Wash full (rather than partial) loads in the dishwasher.
- Flush toilets only when necessary.
- Take shorter showers.
- Turn off the faucet when brushing teeth or shaving.
If the work is completed earlier, the county will notify its customers.
The project will begin on Monday, Aug. 11, with plans for completion on Monday, Aug. 24.
