Louisa County to issue 3.3% property tax rebate
LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Louisa County Board of Supervisors approved a 3.3% rebate of real property taxes during its board meeting on Monday, offering residents some tax relief as home values increase across Central Virginia.
According to an announcement from the county, Louisa residents can expect a 3.3% rebate to be applied to their real estate tax bill in the fall after a county board meeting on Monday, April 28.
Louisa currently has a tax rate of $0.72 for each $100 of assessed property value, and the rebate effectively reduces this by 2.4 cents.
The county explained that its budgeting prioritizes cost-effectiveness, long-term planning and public input. In the fall, the county releases preliminary budget numbers and capital budget planning, before final adoptions begin in the spring after adjustments and feedback.
The rebate is part of a larger effort by the Board of Supervisors to mitigate inflation and ensure that their budget is effective for the county, while considering education, public safety and waste management.
The county said that operational costs and changes in capital expenses helped make this tax relief easier.
Preliminary budget numbers and the capital budget are presented each winter before being adopted in the spring.
The Board of Supervisors is working to mitigate inflation and ensure that their budget is effective for the county.
Louisa is also working to expand their revenue sources, with the fiscal year 2026 budget showing nearly 48% of revenue from sources that weren't just general property taxes.
